Meet Us!

Our Instructors

Ms. Katie

Ms. Katie has been riding and showing since she could walk! She has always had a love for horses and sharing her gratitude for these amazing creatures! Ms. Katie’s experience ranges through multiple disciplines including hunters, polo, western pleasure, and even rodeo. Ms. Katie loves teaching the basics especially to the little ones, focusing on safety and horsemanship.

When Ms. Katie is not on the farm, you can find her…well on the farm! She loves riding her personal horses and often taking trail rides with her two sons. As a busy mom, you may see Ms. Katie all over Wellington participating in various sports and activities.

Ms. Lorraine

Ms. Lorraine has been a trainer for over 25 years and is well loved by all of her students, past and present! She loves to claim she is “retired” but those that know her best know that’s an impossible task for her! Ms. Lorraine is now onto her next adventure of teaching as she has developed our homeschool homesteading programs to share the land-based life she loves with the next generation.

She has taught English and Western riding lessons with an emphasis on safety as she is HSA certified. Ms. Lorraine also has a background in construction and personally picked every aspect of our home barn. She will be the first one to tell you “it takes a horsemen to build a barn.”

When Ms. Lorraine is not horsing around, you can find her playing with her 8 grandkids, running half marathons, visiting her favorite place (Italy), loving on her kids (goats) or working in her gardens.

Our Herd

The wonderful activities we have to offer here, at Black Horse Stables, could not be possible without the impeccable herd of horses that call our farm Home. From the rescue with a bit more TLC needed, to the retired show horse, our horses come from a variety of backgrounds. We pride ourselves on offering our horses a home, for LIFE. We have said time and time again, horses that come to us, are with us for life as long as they are safe and happy in their environment here. They all have a story to tell and a lesson to teach and who better to share that with you, than our four legged friends.

Emma

Emma Done Yet (Emma) is the newest to our herd & has quickly become a favorite among our students! Emma is an 12 year old quarter pony with an extensive show history with accomplishments including reaching the 2019 USEF Pony Finals. While Emma is quite accomplished, the best thing about her is the enchanting personality we have all come to know and love.

Amber

If you’ve been around the farm, you’ve surely met Amber. Amber is a 23 year old Arabian mare. She is not only the smallest on the farm, but the oldest! Amber possesses the grandma personality we all love, and would surely have a plate of cookies for you if she could bake! Amber often does our toddler times and beginner riding lessons, but don’t let her kind demeanor fool you. Amber loves to get up and go when ridden by those of higher skill levels.

Fun Fact: Amber and Emma have quickly become besties!

Holly

Hollywood Loraine, or Holly as she is affectionately known, came to Black Horse Stables as an unruly 5 year old. Needless to say she has grown into one of our most trusted and reliable mounts. Holly will pack around any child (or adult) with ease and grace, but still has plenty of get up and go. Holly is 22 years young and is a double registered quarter horse.

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell has been one of the greatest surprises into our life! TInkerbell was a surprise baby after purchasing her mother, and has been with us since birth. She is 17 years old and is a Quarter horse/appaloosa cross. Her beautiful strawberry roan coloring makes her at hit at every occasion!

Penny

Penelope’s Red Robin - Penny is one of the best in our program. We have had her for five years and could not be more grateful for such a loving mare. Penny came to us with a few health issues that we have managed to get under control. She is 18 years young and a registered quarter horse. Penny no longer does lessons but spends most of her days entertaining those attending toddler time, where she is loved by all.

Ruby

Wonders Gemstone (Ruby) - When you're looking for patience and understanding, Ruby is your go-to girl! Ruby has become a fan favorite on the farm, especially with those needing a confidence boost or a new skill to master. Ruby is as patient as they come and can often be found toting 4 year olds around the riding ring making her really the best gem around!

Goldie

You may notice this sweet mare always the first to greet you on the farm! Eager for treats and always willing to please, Goldie is one that we are happy to have for life. While we are still working on her (many) health issues, we have come to know and love this girl and her shining personality! If your passing Goldie, be sure to love on her with some pets or all the treats she desires!
